Until 2012, Stef was managing the sales of his neighborhood bar with pen and paper—not the most effective solution. Seeing those old-fashioned tools, a regular of the bar built Stef a simple point of sale system: a numpad to enter the price of drinks and a button for each VAT tariff, and that was that. Years went by without a peep, and everyone was happy. And then 2020 happened.
With everything in flux, it became clear that independent businesses — the beating hearts of our communities — are vulnerable. The shops, cafes and restaurants we love are increasingly dependent on digital tools in order to survive ever-changing times, but they pay for those tools dearly. This had to be changed, and, starting with that first POS made just for Stef, a team of business owners in industries from hospitality to tech got together to create something new, something that puts the interests of independent business owners front and center, and saves them time and money.
